Dubrovnik – Ston

300 kn / 40 eur per person

Irish dramatist George Bernard Shaw once said: “Those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik.”

This statement best describes one of the most famous tourist destinations in the world. It is almost impossible to come to Croatia, and not to visit Dubrovnik.

What makes Dubrovnik special is the fact that it has been part of the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites for 40 years and that every part of old city core is a sight or a monument. The first slavery abolition in Europe, the third oldest pharmacy in Europe, the first quarantine hospital in the world, the first orphanage in the world, the first country which acknowledged the USA… these are only few of many indicators which show the importance of Dubrovnik throughout the history. It is also an indicator that you should definitely visit Dubrovnik!

We drive on the highway to the south of Croatia. Our first stop is Trsteno, a small town which is most famous for the oldest Arboretum in the world.

After a short pause, we go on to Dubrovnik.

We come in front of the most famous city attraction – walls of Dubrovnik (1940 m long). Inside of Walls is a historical part of the city with Stradun, Knezevi dvori, the church of sv Vlaho, Sponza palace, Orlando’ s column, interesting historical church, cathedrals and city streets.

There, you will have 3 hours for sightseeing and free time.

On return from Dubrovnik, at the very beginning of the Peljesac peninsula, we will stop by in one small fairytale place: Mali Ston. This place is connected with Ston by the largest preserved stonewall (5.5 km) in Europe. Bay of Mali Ston is famous for shellfish acquaculture, especially oysters and Noah’s ark, what makes the Bay irresistible for seafood fans.

Ston is a rich treasury of historical – cultural tradition, and former value of Ston as a city is seen even today in production plants of the oldest salt works in the world. This salt works has stayed faithful to the tradition and to the way of production which hasn’t been changed from ancient times.

Here we will make a 45 min pause, and you will be able to buy some sea fruits or salt in the salt works.
