When you listen about tourist destinations in Dalmatia, you will definitely hear about Imotski, a small town worth visiting. Imotski is situated in the heart of Dalmatinska zagora. It is graced by fertile Imotski field, the river Vrlika, and many lakes and karst valleys which make this town famous.
While Blue and Red Lake are famous worldwide, many others, equally beautiful, are almost unknown.
We will start sightseeing with the visit to one of the five sources of river Vrlika, symbolically named Dva oka (Two eyes) because of its shape. On the ground it seems incredibly beautiful, but from bird perspective it has epic beauty.
By further walk we come to Zelena katedrala (Green Cathedral), church at open air, place of beauty and peace right next to Vrlika.
We go on to the place which offers magnificent view. The field of Imotski and four lakes in row – Lokvicicko, Knezovic, Galipovac, Prolosko blato- look really stunning. Then we go to the only artificial lake in Imotski region, Ricice lake, known as Zeleno jezero (Green lake).
The last two lakes are natural landmarks – Red lake, the deepest lake in Europe, and Blue lake, one of the most beautiful lakes in Croatia. Blue lake is located in the centre of the town, so we continue our sightseeing on foot. Along the edge of the lake is fortress Topana which dominates the town. Within the fortress is a church of Gospe od Anđela (Lady of Angels), patroness of the town. There is beautiful view from the top of fortress to Imotski, lakes, Imotski fields and mountain Biokovo.
Nearby, there is one of 10 most interesting football stadiums in the world- Gospin dolac.
Then we come to the centre of the town, walking down the famous Imotski stairs in the main square. There, we will have a break and free time for a walk.
After that, we go through the old part of the town and go to the church of sv Franje (saint Francis), where we end our sightseeing.
